Barking and Dagenham is a New Kind of Council. Over the past four years we have gone through an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we can deliver real change with our community. Although a lot of improvements have been made, resulting in us winning LGC Driving Growth award and Council of Year in 2018 and LGC Entrepreneurial Council of the Year 2019, there is still more to do. This new Kind of Council is not your traditional hierarchical structure rather a grouping of different service delivery units, some inhouse and some wholly owned companies and at the heart of them is the Core.
The appointment of our next Strategic Director of Inclusive Growth will be pivotal in ensuring that, post pandemic, our borough comes back stronger than ever. You will lead the strategy and policy development that guides our ambitious delivery plans to: bring new skills into the borough; create employment pathways; and attract inward investment. This is not an operational leadership role. With implementation and delivery of the strategies you develop being carried out by our subsidiary companies and partners, you should be comfortable operating in this structure and environment.
