Strategic Director, Inclusive Growth

In this leadership role, you will shape and drive our strategies to deliver economic development and physical regeneration ahead of commissioning our partners and subsidiary organisations to deliver these services. As the strategic lead for this agenda, you will work collaboratively across the Council and with stakeholders to deliver our long-term borough wide goals that truly benefits our residents and communities.

Partnership working will be key to this role, and we will be looking to you as the lead to develop and maintain strategic relationships that: provide skills and employment pathways; attract inward investment to the borough; and bring investment into our transport infrastructure. Only by working in partnership with other agencies and stakeholders will we be able to deliver our ambitions.

Developing the right strategies and turning political ambitions into deliverable projects will be key to the success of this post. Your strategies will: maximise job opportunities for our residents; bring employers and inward investment into the borough; ensure businesses benefit from our physical regeneration; and ensure we become the ‘Green Capital of the Capital’.

This role is influential in continuing to embed a culture of innovation and continuous learning across the authority; whilst developing teams, ideas, projects, and programmes, to achieve strategic objectives set out in our Borough Manifesto. You will work closely with many of the authorities’ key stakeholders, including our neighbouring boroughs; the GLA; TFL; Central Government; and Homes England to name a few.

About you

This is not a typical regeneration or economic development role. We are looking for an experienced senior manager with a background in strategy, policy, and programme development. You will understand the complexities of a local authority and our operating environment, but do not necessarily need to have worked for one. Developing strategy will come naturally to you, as will turning policy into action.

You will be a natural collaborator, system leader and outstanding communicator, that is able to build upon our well-established partnerships, ensuring there is collective focus and accountability on delivering positive change and action.

You will be a strong influencer; with the implementation of your programmes and strategies delivered by others, you will have demonstrable experience of successfully providing oversight and guidance to indirectly led teams, giving high levels of assurance throughout, ensuring our ambitions are achieved.

Ultimately, we are looking for you to embrace change, seize opportunities and disrupt what is normal, to deliver positive outcomes for those living and working within the borough, ensuring no one is left behind.
